Su nombre fue cambiando conforme lo hac\u00eda el r\u00e9gimen pol\u00edtico. En el S.XVIII era la \u201cPlaza Mayor\u201d donde se realizaban todos los actos p\u00fablicos, empezando por el mercado de los mi\u00e9rcoles seg\u00fan privilegio de los Reyes Cat\u00f3licos. Entonces la villa de origen isl\u00e1mico, en torno al castillo, comenz\u00f3 su expansi\u00f3n y aqu\u00ed se construyeron las primeras casas se\u00f1oriales.
